Dr. Michael Rapoff is a distinguished professor, mentor and researcher. Over the past 28 years he has focused on psychosocial issues affecting children and adolescents with chronic diseases, including adherence to medical regimens, pain, and psychosocial adjustment.
He is co-inventor of Headache Hero (previously Headstrong). Dr. Rapoff is currently the Ralph L. Smith (Distinguished) Professor of Pediatrics and Vice-Chair for Research/Scholarship in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Dr. Rapoff received his Ph.D in Developmental and Child Psychology in 1980 from the University of Kansas and completed a two year post-doctoral fellowship in Behavioral Pediatrics at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Rapoff has received millions of dollars of grant support for his research on headaches as well as improving adherence to medical regimens for children with asthma and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA). His research has been supported by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and by the Arthritis Foundation.
Dr. Rapoff is expanding the Headache Hero technology to evaluate Jointstrong for children with arthritis and Gutstrong for children with stomach and intestinal problems.
Dr. Rapoff has 81 publications in journals or books, including the second edition of a single-authored book to be published in 2009 on pediatric medical adherence (Adherence to Pediatric Medical Regimens, 2nd ed. Norwell, MA: Springer). In addition, Dr. Rapoff has been a reviewer for 18 competitive journals, NIH submissions, proposal reviews and external reviews. He currently sits as a Member of the Editorial Board for Health Psychology and is Associate Editor for the Journal of Pediatric Psychology.
Dr. Mark Connelly has built his career on helping children, particularly with pain.
He is co-inventor of Headache Hero (previously Headstrong). He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, Adjunct Faculty in the Graduate Schools of Nursing and Psychology at University of Missouri-Kansas City, and Director of Pain Psychology Services at Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics. He earned his doctorate in clinical health psychology and quantitative methods from the University of Kansas and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in pain treatment and research at the Duke University Medical Center Pain Prevention and Treatment Research Program.
His primary area of research has been on applying computer technology to improve the assessment and treatment of chronic pain conditions in children. Dr. Connelly has received nearly $3 million in funding for his research from the National Institutes of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, AstraZeneca, and private grants from the National Headache Foundation and intramural foundations. He is author or co-author of 23 publications, is an associate editor for the journal Pain, sits on four review boards of additional competitive pain journals, and is Editorial Board Member for the Journal of Pediatric Psychology.

During his 22-year business career, he has been intimately involved in the growth of various start-up operations and is experienced in the aspects of high-growth management and acquisition of capital.
Most recently, he served as Entrepreneur-in-Residence for the Kansas Technology Enterprise Corporation where he mentored more than 20 technology start-ups. Prior to this term he served in the role of CEO and Country Manager for Catalyst Lighting Group and Euronet World Wide, respectively. Dennis has a Masters and Bachelors in Business Administration from the University of Kansas. He sits in an advisory role for the strategic expansion of ophthalmology opportunities in Kansas City, as well as other advisory and board capacities.
